Leisure time in Metropolis GZM

Metropolis GZM is a space where life revolves around more than just work and education. It is a place full of events, excitement, and leisure opportunities: from culture and sport to recreation close to nature. It is right here, during the 17th World Bridge Series in Katowice, that participants can experience the unique energy of a region that combines modernity with a rich heritage.

Culture plays an equally important role. GZM is developing its own recognisable projects, such as Kierunek GZM, the largest micro-adventure festival in Poland, which will take place this year from 26 to 28 June. Each edition of the festival features an extensive programme consisting of dozens or even hundreds of events that encourage people to discover Metropolis GZM in a unique way: through walking, visiting lesser-known locations, and exploring local stories. This is an ideal choice for those who wish to see the region from a new perspective: up close, more attentively, and more authentically.

Kierunek GZM strengthens local identity and encourages both the residents and the guests to discover places that are often right on their doorstep, yet remain unknown. It is also a way of building a community through experiences: participating in events together, discovering history, and enjoying what all 41 municipalities and communes of the Metropolis have to offer.

The GZM Night of Theatres (Noc Teatrów GZM) also holds a special place in the metropolitan calendar. On a single September evening, this event opens up theatre stages in many cities simultaneously, attracting thousands of participants and creating a unique metropolitan celebration of culture.

Polish Capital of Culture 2027

The experience gained from the joint bid by the 41 municipalities for the title of European Capital of Culture 2029 has become the foundation for further activities. Although the title was not awarded, this process yielded lasting effects: it strengthened collaboration, developed the skills of the cultural sector, and built new relationships. Today, the Metropolis is preparing to serve as the Polish Capital of Culture in 2027. The planned celebrations will feature a rich programme of events that will further cement the presence of GZM on Poland’s cultural map.

UNESCO

Another unique asset of the region is its heritage of global significance. The Historic Silver Mine and the Black Trout Adit, inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List, attract tens of thousands of tourists every year. Since 2022, the Metropolis has been their strategic partner, supporting the promotion and development of these exceptional sites managed by the Tarnowskie Góry Land Lovers Association. They are among the few sites in Poland to hold such a status, making them well worth a visit during your stay in the region.

Metropolis GZM is a place where diversity becomes a strength. Here, events, culture, and sport create a space for shared experiences, accessible to everyone and open to the world.
